Last Saturday the St. Clair County Basketball Tournament was held at St. Clair County High School. All of Springville’s teams had advanced to their championship round. The day started off strong when Coach Caldwell led the 9th grade boys to a 30+ point victory over Moody. The JV girls followed, cruising to a double-digit victory over Ashville. After that, the JV boys game against Moody was close in the first quarter, then the Tigers ran away with the game. The first few games lacked much excitement or anxiety due to the utter domination displayed the Springville Tigers.

The Varsity girls game against Moody made up enough excitement for the whole night. Springville was down by five with one minute left in the fourth quarter, but, thanks to clutch shots, the Lady Tigers forced overtime. With another nail-biting period of basketball, the score was tied with five seconds left, and Piper Long was up to shoot freethrows. With ice-water in her veins, she made one of the two shots and gave Springville the county championship.

The Varsity Boys followed thereafter. Early in the game the Tigers took the lead and didn’t give it back. They completed the championship sweep.

The basketball program had a total of nineteen players on the All-Tournament team with the M.O.P. (Most Outstanding Player) from each team being: Ben Bianchi (9th Grade), Robin Russo (JV Girls), Cameron Bonner (JV Boys), Piper Long (Varsity Girls), and Trevor Hurst (Varsity Boys).
