The SHS cross country team kicked off their season on September 1. Going in, the Tigers were predicted to win by a small margin, but they ended up blowing away the competition by over 30 points. Before the race the Tigers had big

expectations for the race. They planned to win, and win they did. The Tigers were led to this victory by head coach Kerri Mahaffey, and the team’s new coach, Stephen Watson. The Tigers had three runners place in the top ten, with Chris Smith in 8th, Peyton Young in 3rd, and finally Graham Bianchi in first. On the girls’ side, Sarah McGinnis came in 6th in the girls race.

When asked about his first place finish

Bianchi had this to say: “It was my first win ever, and its a great way to start the year, not just for me but for the team as a whole. We came in first but everyone still gave their all. This was the worst course of the year and we dominated it.”

This victory has given the Tigers a strong sense of confidence, and they look forward to the year. They plan to win sectionals and hope to come in top 3 in state.
