Following a blow-out victory at the St. Clair County Invitational, the Tigers cross country team headed into Pell City with confidence. All the runners were anticipating the race and were excited for the chance to run against section rivals, Gadsden’s Southside High School. But upon arriving, it was an utter disaster for not only Springville cross country, but the entire field of runners. From there being a three-foot rattlesnake coiled on the course to the record-high heat bearing down on the runners, no one was able to perform the way that they intended.

However, our boys still came back with a second place finish behind Southside by merely two points. They were led by a second place finish from Graham Bianchi, a sixth finish from Peyton Young, an eighth place finish from Caleb Kimmins, a ninth place finish from Chris Smith, and a fourteenth place finish from Hudson Kersh. On the girls’ side, they came back with a fifth place finish, performing well above expectation and continuing to impress the competition.

Despite not bringing home a victory, the Tiger cross country team’s morale is at an all-time high, and they are prepared for their next race at the Fairview Invitational on September 15.

Please show your support for the Tiger runners as they travel in the coming weeks and continue their RUN of excellence. All the way to State.
