This past Friday our cross country team traveled to Oxford to compete in the 5a Section 2 Championships. The conditions were less than satisfactory with temperatures hovering around 45 degrees and a constant drizzle bearing down on the runners throughout the race. However, it had little effect on the Springville Tigers as the Boys team placed 2nd overall scoring 69 points and the Girls team placed 4th overall with a total of 112 points. Sending both teams to the State Championship in Moulton on Saturday, November 10.

Leading the boys team was  Graham Bianchi in 6th place, Caleb Kimmins in 9th place, Peyton Young in 12th, Chris Smith in 14th, and Mason Beck in 28th. When asked about there performance Senior runner Chris Smith said, “The 2nd place finish was both a disappointment and a great victory. We are going to State, but we very well could have won. I guess we’ll get our shot in Moulton.” Although hampered by injuries, this years boys running team has been stronger than they have ever been; winning the county meet and dominating races all over the state. Watch out for them as close out there record-breaking season this coming Saturday.

Leading the girls team was Lauren Isley in 9th, Beth Ann Tucker in 14th, Sadie Deason in 30th, Alaina McGinnis in 32nd, and Sarah McGinnis in 34th. When asked about there performance at Sectionals Junior Sarah McGinnis stated, “That the race was fun with all the competition there. I’m proud of our team and excited to go to State.” Even though this girls team is one of the youngest teams in the Section and even the State (with 3 of their 5 scoring runners coming from Springville Middle School) they have vastly improved their times and are State Bound.
