President Trump’s alleged wall is beginning to take shape. However, there may be some issues with the budget. Already  Trump has sent about 5,800 troops and more than twelve miles of barbed wire down to the border. With recent, and sometimes violent, attempts at illegal border crossings, President Trump hopes Congress will see the serious need for the wall that he sees. As far as funding goes, President Trump has moved away from the idea that Mexico should pay for the wall and is now placing the responsibility on Congress. Congress, however, does not like the idea of spending 5 billion dollars. As a compromise earlier this year, Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer proposed a 25 billion dollar budget in exchange for legal protection for immigrants enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA. He withdrew his proposal, however, because of Democratic pressure to drive a harder bargain. Current negotiations are centered around a bipartisan agreement of 1.6 billion dollars. The pressure is on for Democrats to agree to a larger budget, but if negotiations remain at a stalemate the government could be looking at another shut-down.
