With the ending of the Tiger’s very successful cross country season, the runners trade in trails for a track. The indoor season was kicked off January 4 at the Icebreaker Invitational. Many runners qualified at their first meet. The 4 x 800 relay team qualified with a time of 9:17, shattering the qualifying time of 10:30.  Graham Bianchi and Caleb Kimmons also found success as they both qualified in both the mile and the 800 meter.

The next meet for the Tigers took place on the 21st of January at the Martin Luther King Classic. The Tigers continued their journey to qualify for state once more. The next qualifier was Drew Platts who qualified in the 400m with a time of 54 seconds. Also qualifying at this meet was Sara Mcginnis, who qualified in both the 3200m and the 800m. Another qualifier came with senior Chris Smith in the 800m with a time of 2:17. Jake Harned qualified in the very difficult 3200 meter with a time of 11:42.

The final regular season meet for the Tigers took place on January 25 and 26. The aptly named Last Chance Invitational was the “last chance” for some Tigers to qualify for the state meet. For some their last chance was successful as they achieved their goal of going to state; though for some, their hopes for state ended in heartbreak. The State meet will take place February 1 and 2 at the Birmingham Crossplex, so be sure to be there to support your Springville Tigers state qualifiers!
