The Tiger tennis team’s season is underway.  They started practice in November, and their first match is on March 5th in Leeds. The coaches are Mrs. Land and Coach Ken. Last season the boys and girls made it to state, and they plan to do the same this year. For practice, which is on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, you can find the team starting practice by running a mile. Then they practice hitting their backswing and forehand. Then they pair up and play a match. The boys team is led by Doug Turney, Preston Pitts, Cam Cocker, Jacob Tapscott, Brett Blair, Connor Calhoun, Jackson Chesser, and living legend Andrew Fredrick. The girls are led by Lillie Casey, Lexi Jones, Anna Parsons, Danielle McDonald, Elizabeth Whitley, Molly Graben, and Macy Nolan.

Each tennis match is made up of three sets. To win a set, you must win at least six games. The games are scored starting at Love (or zero) and go up to 40, but that’s actually just four points. The first point is 15, then 30, then 40, then game point.

Lexi Jones claims, “If you don’t practice, you don’t deserve the chance to win.” She prefers to practice every day.

I asked Preston Pitts what the teams goal is for the year. He said, “We not only plan to make it to state but to make a big run to win state. Also come out and support your Tigers.”
